Sir Francis Drake when he sailed into it's protected waters. It's hard to believe such pristine beauty is such scant
miles from metropolitan San Francisco. Despite our numerous visits, we never tire of its offerings. Our late March
excursion featured an endless parade of show-stoppers: Gray Whales, an Eurasian Wigeon, an unexpected Glaucous Gull,
and a constant stream of scoters that held at least one Long-tailed Duck. How fortuitous we had our spotting scope
with us! Not long ago, thoughts of hiking the steep hills and long stretches of beach had convinced us to leave our
scope behind. The setup was just too cumbersome. But thanks to the Tri-Pak, such temptations are now distant memories. |
